Drum Lessons of All Levels
Drum Set
Acoustic / Electronic
Today’s young students love to play the drum set. Harry feels the best way to develop skills is to learn two parts at a time and then add a third and fourth part using arms and legs as one develops coordination in their legs and feet. It is important to build strength with the feet before combining all four limbs. Basic fun American drum set patterns are learned initially, then gradually leading to great syncopated styles of rock, blues and jazz.
Mallets
Xylophone / Bells / Vibraphone
Mallet studies include basic scales and arpeggios. Harry’s expertise is in helping beginner to intermediate students and he has several mallet instruments for that purpose. He uses classic works by composers like Bach and Beethoven, as well as, modern recognizable songs by jazz composers like Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk. Harry enjoys helping students learn mallet skills by studying two to four measures of music at a time, three times each in order to develop necessary motor skills and muscle memory. Mallet studies require patience because one must look at the music and see keyboard with peripheral vision all at the same time.
School Drummers
Snare / Any Percussion
Harry has helped many band directors with their percussionists over the years, from teaching students how to read rhythms to writing their own beats. No matter if a student is in the marching band and or orchestra, Harry has lots of experience and good tips on how to improve your skills.
